Dispensing Medications

The Pharmacy module in EMR Ghana links directly with clinician prescriptions to ensure accurate and safe medication delivery.

1. Finding a Prescription

From the Pharmacy Dispensing page (/pharmacy/dispensing):

1. Locate the prescription in the New (Pending) queue.
2. Search by the patient's Name or Hospital Number.
3. Select Start Processing to move the prescription to the Dispensing status.

2. Processing and Billing

While in the Dispensing status:

1. Review the prescribed medications, dosages, and instructions.
2. Update quantities or dosages if necessary after consulting the clinician.
3. Click Send Bill to move the prescription to the Payment Pending status.
4. The patient can then fulfill the payment at the Cashier's desk (or the bill is auto-paid if the patient has active NHIS).

3. Final Dispensing

1. Once the payment is confirmed, the prescription appears in the Paid (Ready) queue.
2. Prepare the medications for the patient.
3. Click Mark Dispensed to complete the visit and update the system record.

4. Inventory Management

• Dispensing automatically deducts the quantity from the pharmacy stock.
• Low-stock items are flagged for urgent re-ordering in the Pharmacy Summary dashboard.

[!CAUTION] Always verify the patient's identity with their Hospital Number before finalizing the dispensing process.
